STUDENT PROFILE
Raynard Gillispie

Five years ago, Raynard dropped out of his high school. His life turned upside down, he was involved in gang violence and was in fear for his life. Shortly after a traumatic near death experience, he made the decision to change his life and reengage in his education. He learned about Excel Academy, an alternative education school of choice for older students his age. The environment made him comfortable because the students were between the ages of 16-21. Raynard had the opportunity for a second chance and made the best of it. Raynard became a member of student government, was accepted onto the honor roll, attended the annual college tour, earned an internship and became part of the Student Advisory Council for Chicago Public Schools. In 2014-2015 he graduated at 21 years old and is attending the University of Northern Illinois in the Fall 2015.
