Camelot Excel Academy South Shore John Sweet helped police save the lives of two people trapped in a vehicle.

Excel Academy of South Shore student John Sweet helped to save the lives of two unconscious men stuck inside a burning car on November 1 when he came to aid of some local police officers.

After the car crashed in his Chicago neighborhood, John helped save the two unconscious men inside the car by bringing a fire extinguisher to a local officer trying to put out the flames.

John got the chance last week to formally meet the officers that he helped that morning, including the man he handed the fire extinguisher to: Officer Shadai Sweiss, who expressed deep gratitude for John’s actions, calling him a “hero”.

“There were a few people, adults on scene, but who jumped in? John,” Officer Sweiss told Fox32 in Chicago.

The story also talks about John’s transformation since he’s been a student at Camelot.

“A lot of people helped me when I was younger, I really wasn’t all that of a good kid and people helped me become the person I am now,” said John. “So, I guess that’s why I want to help people better themselves.”
